  1. Hi Karen, your outline looks concise.
i have to nitpick on what 4d gaming entails, but i guess i'll see that in your upcoming draft(end of week 7 :( )

anw, your future considerations seem like its already happening or in the way too near future, maybe you might want to look into the later future also? though that would be rather hard. i find that the gaming industry has no idea how games in the future will be so they're just fooling around blindly or else sticking to the safe side of reinventing the same games, just with better graphics. most games are just repetitions(call of duty 1 - 8, final fantasy 1 to 13(irony)) you could talk about that. that there's no real innovatively different game play.

on your portion about impact on social and economy, you could talk about current game competitions. In most places, there are competitions for these games, international competitions for some games even. In South Korea especially, successful gamers are treated like professional atheletes.

  2. hi karen,

i am impressed with the knowledge you have with gaming because it is predomiantly a guy's field.

anyway, i agree with you that the current technology foucsed on interaction between user and the gameplay itself. they harnessed the usage of sensors which picks up our physical movements. however, the main market of games are still computer games that are being played with a pc, keyboard and mouse. the only difference is that the graphics and audio are getting more and more impressive each time with the advancement of hardware capabilities.

so have you ever thought why traditional games are still more popular? you may defend by saying that "sensor related" games are new and are gaining market share. however, i feel that human are lazy in nature. Example, it's easier to have your room in a messy state as compared to having it neat and tidy. we always do things that requires the least effort.

i tend to paint a picture that the future gaming industry would be this:
-i am able to get in-game with the aid of a 3-d glass on my sofa.
-advance neuro technology can read my mind and translate what i am thinking into the game-play
-live chat with my friends in the game world. but i am pretty sure this can be done easily with the current technology

that's my oponion on what the gaming industry will develop into. nonetheless, great outline that looks promising!

  3. Hi Karen,

first of all, your topic is easy to engage with.i like the logical flow of your essay. they are quite clear-cut.

however i realise that your introduction is very dry. or maybe because it is just an outline. but you might find it useful to add in interesting statement that will make your readers interested to find out more about your essay. you can refer to either kenneth or yaozong's executive summary.

second thing i spot is that, your history of gaming industry has nothing much to do with your title so when i read through it, i feel a bit cheated. i think you has to be more precise in your report that you are doing console gaming topic(base on what you told me). because base on just your title and outline, i believe for example, that playing five-stones is also a part of gaming in the past. then it would be good to add in the older games that people play to show a revolution of gaming industry. (again, it depends on what you are going to refine your topic)

your current situations is quite good.

for future considerations, i totally agree with yaozong quoting him
"i tend to paint a picture that the future gaming industry would be this:
-i am able to get in-game with the aid of a 3-d glass on my sofa.
-advance neuro technology can read my mind and translate what i am thinking into the game-play
-live chat with my friends in the game world. but i am pretty sure this can be done easily with the current technology"

because my idea of future gaming is exactly the same as him. or even further into the future.

my idea of future gaming is so advanced that imagine, you put on a goggle while you are sleeping. the goggle will bring you into a virtual world where you can fully become another character in that virtual world. you walk in another world, interact with other "online" users.. you basically seperates the virtual world from the real world. you are able to live in two worlds.

that is the real hard to achieve future of gaming industry to me.
